Strategy

💡Most answers are small grammar words: prepositions (in, on, at), articles (a, the), pronouns (it, which), or conjunctions (but, and).

💡Read the whole sentence before and after the gap. The answer usually makes a common phrase or pattern.

Common Mistakes

⚠️Only ONE word per gap. Don't write two words or a contraction like "don't" (that counts as two).

⚠️Check spelling carefully. Even a small mistake means zero marks for that gap.

⏱️About 8–10 minutes. Fill in the easy gaps first, then go back to the hard ones.

Part 3 Word Formation

Read the text below. Use the word given in capitals at the end of some of the lines to form a word that fits in the gap in the same line.

Tips▾

Strategy

💡First, decide what type of word you need: a noun, adjective, adverb, or verb.

💡Check if you need a negative form (un-, dis-, im-) or a plural (-s). Read the sentence carefully for clues.

Common Mistakes

⚠️Spelling is very important! Common endings like -tion, -ment, -ful, and -ness must be exact.

⚠️Don't just add a suffix — sometimes you need to change the base word too (e.g. decide → decision).

⏱️About 8–10 minutes. If you're stuck, write your best guess — a blank always scores zero.

Complete the second sentence so that it has a similar meaning to the first, using the word given. Do not change the word given.

Tips▾

Strategy

💡The key word must NOT be changed — don't add -s, -ed, -ing, or anything else to it.

💡Think about what grammar is being tested: passive voice, reported speech, conditionals, comparatives, or phrasal verbs.

Common Mistakes

⚠️Count your words! You must use between 3 and 6 words, including the key word.

⚠️Both sentences must mean EXACTLY the same thing. Don't add or lose any information.

⏱️About 10–12 minutes. This is often the hardest part, so give yourself enough time.
