IELTS Speaking

Part 1 · Interview. About 4 to 5 minutes of everyday questions on 2 or 3 familiar topics. Remember: the examiner opens with introductions and an ID/name check before any of these questions begin.

Part 2 · Long turn. You get a cue card, one minute to prepare, then you speak alone for 1 to 2 minutes.

Part 3 · Discussion. A two-way discussion connected to your Part 2 topic, pulled up to more abstract, general ideas. About 4 to 5 minutes.

Full test. A complete speaking test run in order: Part 1 interview, Part 2 long turn, then a Part 3 discussion linked to it. Work through all three in one sitting, about 11 to 14 minutes.
